A European leader in equipment manufacturing for over 60 years, our customer is an innovator in the field of glass and stone processing equipment, including straight bevellers and straight-line edging machines. With a strong commitment to quality, they are dedicated to the manufacture of equipment that improves safety as well as increasing both efficiency and quality.
The customer manufactures industrial bevelling and surface finishing machinery used in glass and stone processing. Their straight-line edging machines contain 12 motors that the operators must individually adjust to work the glass. Each motor is fitted with a grinding or polishing disk, set at different angles. The pressure is set to ensure the right finish and quality. To do this the operator monitors the current of each motor using an analogue meter. With so many panel meters close together, it was impossible for the operator to quickly know when and where a motor needed adjustment. They needed a better method for the operators to work the machines, and they wanted to make their machines look more modern and fit for the 21st century.
The programable scale, setpoints and colour changing screen, as well as the APM’s unique display, made it the perfect replacement for their analog meters. The APM was set to an optimum range to change color and flash, instantly indicating a motor’s status and letting the operator know they are in the “good” range for the grinding/polishing motors. In addition, the analogue output of the APM was used to re-transmit the values to a remote HMI display.
The customer wanted additional custom functionality with the meter so Trumeter worked in close collaboration to produce several concepts before agreeing the custom options and pricing. We then produced test samples for the company to provide feedback, leading to further adjustments and developments until the final version of their APM was agreed.
The customized firmware incorporated pre-installed bespoke configurations, allowing the APM to be programmed via the DIP switches, making installation quicker. The customer also wanted the product to carry their corporate branding including a custom bezel, labelling and packaging: Trumeter met all these requirements while also advising on certification requirements.
The ability to customize the APM to their own requirements means the meter seamlessly integrates with their equipment. The functionality of the APM is way beyond traditional analog meters and incorporating the APM has modernized the customers machines and set them apart from competitors still using traditional analog meters. This has not only allowed them to reposition their product in the marketplace as a premium product, but also reinforced their commitment to innovation, efficiency and safety.
